Fall Flower Update.

Yes, we still have flowers.  The season is winding down but  we will be open until Oct 11 if the weather holds and we do not get a frost.  At this time of year pre-orders are greatly appreciated.   I will do my best to keep the cooler full with Garden bouquets and bunches, but avoid disappointment and call ahead.

Here is the last bridal bouquet of the Season.  Such a pretty one with Cafe Au lait dahlias, garden flowers and locally grown hot house roses from Apko Greenhouses.
A custom order vase for Mom and new Baby girl.  I love this color combo.
Hopefully you are able to come get flowers before we close for the season.

What's your favourite Dahlia?

The beauty in the dahlia field is just amazing.  It is my job this month to decide who gets planted next year and who doesn't make the cut.  This year there has been an enormous amount of insect damage and some varieties are more susceptible than others.  These are the first to go.  Then what new colors do I love and what ones are just so so.  There are a few so so ones, but  also some new stunners.

So what's your favourite colors.  The bright orange, red and yellow ?  The more calming pink and purples?  or maybe the smoky fuchsia and pinky corals?

Don't forget Dahlia season goes right to Thanksgiving.  These beauties are available in Garden bouquets, by the bunch or by the bucket.  Bucket orders are available only by pre-order.

This big purple beauty is Thomas Edison.  This variety is a little late to start blooming but such a lovely color.  This picture does not do it justice.  It is the only dark purple dahlia I have found.

What's blooming for late summer.

Its hard to believe that the end of August is just around the corner.  The garden is still brimming with flowers.
Look at all those Dahlias.  We have a good supply this week.  Yeah!   Dahlias are available in Garden bouquets, by the bunch or by the bucket.
This is my favourite sunflower.  It is a late bloomer but worth the wait!.  The honey bees and I were very busy working this morning.  The flower cooler got filled up for another week.

Other blooms available this week are Zinnias, Asters, and Delphiniums.  Yes, the Delphiniums are back in bloom.

We made it!

Both the garden and I made it through a very busy week.  Our flowers got to go to many events.  Here are some of the flowers that went out.  Lots of Custom order vases.

Table centres for a Wedding.  Love how the bride embellished the jars and I did the flowers.
A Bride's Bouquet.  This has got to be my favourite thing to do.  Designing a one of a kind Bridal bouquet using all seasonal  flowers from here on the farm.
Here's a close up of another Bride's Bouquet.  Look at all the fun stuff in this one,  there is even dill and nasturtiums.

A stroll through the garden.

Everywhere I look I see flowers ready to be picked.  What fun!  As long as I stay on top of the irrigation the flowers love this weather.  Me not so much.  I am more of a below 25 C girl.
Here are some of my favourites.  Two new dahlias that are planted in our greenhouse.
Cafe Au Lait.  Finally I have this variety.  I am in love!!
Precious.  Another stunner.  Dahlias are very limited right now but more coming soon.
Another Favourite, Sweet peas.  Limited quantities as well on this one.  Call ahead to reserve your bunch.
Snapdragons are also available.  Various colours available.

Its almost here!

Flower season is quickly approaching.  We will be picking lilacs very soon.  Buds are colouring up nicely.  If you are interested in pre-ordering some Lilac bunches please let me know!

Today was Calla planting day.  Four big beds went in.  It was a bit warm out there but perfect for planting these bulbs.  Callas start blooming in Mid to late July and are available by the bunch or in bouquets until the beginning of September.  These are super popular with Brides.

Here are a few of the colour that we grow.

More planting.

It has been a great couple of weeks for perennial planting.  A few days nice and then a few days rain to get them all settled in.  I have been super busy. Here are some of the new additions to the garden.

Blue Mirror Delphinium.    I have a large planting of the New Zealand Giant Delphiniums and they are spectacular.  But the Blue mirror interested me since it is a more airy delicate stem.

More White flowers.  I always say you  can never have enough white flowers.

Campanula persicifolia Alba.

Leucanthemum Ester Reed.  I lost this patch a few years back and finally found some more plants.
A real work horse in the garden are the Rudbeckia.  Once they start blooming they do not stop.

Chim Chiminee.  Love the frilly petals on this one.

Cherry Brandy.  A great color addition.
It can rain for a bit now because I need a break from planting.
