September Update and By appointment only.

What a summer.  Hot and dry and then wet and stormy.  There is a lot  of damage in the garden from the wind storm.  Some sunflowers were taken down as well as some dahlias and some came through okay.   It will be a big clean up week for me.  And I am not sure how much of the garden will recover for September picking.

So for September, we will only be open by appointment for pre-order pick-up.  All orders must have 24 hr notice.  Call 604-530-4027. If you already have an order in, no problem we will see you at your pre-arranged pick up time.  Appointments can be made Wednesday to Saturday 10 - 5 pm.   We will be open until Sept 19th.  Thank you for your understanding and please do not hesitate to call to place your order.

Here is my Last big vase for 2015.  Last week I just had to do one more big vase showcasing Dahlias, Millet, Hydrangeas, Hop vine, green mist ammi, cerinthe and ninebark foliage.

August flower update.

We are just on the brink of exploding with sunflowers.  Look at all those flowers ready to pop.
The dahlias are finally starting to give some decent cuts.  Colors are a bit limited right now but we do have some bunches and bouquets in the cooler.  Does anyone know the name of this dahlia?

This one is Aztec gold.  Such a show stopper.
Isn't this just totally fabulous.  Loves Lies Bleeding Amaranth.  Great for those big vases.

Asiatic liles and more!

Things are just a hopping on the farm.  Everywhere I look something is ready to pick.  Our main flower right now is Asiatic Lilies.  These flowers are all unscented and come in a wide range of colors.  The most important thing to do with all your lilies is to remove the stamens!!  This is important for two reasons.  First it extends the life of each flower a few days and second no messy pollen.
Is this not a stunner.  A new lily for the garden called Cancun.  This garden bouquet is loaded with treasures.  Come get yours before they are all gone.
What else is blooming?  Snapdragons, Sweet peas, Cosmos and soon to be picking hydrangeas.

Caring for your Peony Flowers

Just thought I would remind everyone on how to care for their peony flowers at home.  One of the most important things to remember is that Cut flowers should not be left in vehicles to get overheated.  It is always best to take your flowers directly home.

There is lots of advise about flower care but this is what I find works for me.  Always re cut your stems.  I would suggest a good inch off and cut at an angle.  This gives lots of surface area for water uptake.

Peonies drink a lot of water everyday.  Use the flower food package included with your bouquet or bunch.  This helps to keep the water clean, improves water uptake and has some food for the flowers to properly open.   Everyday top up the water.  It is very important to keep the vase full.  You will be amazed how this effects vase life.  Also make sure that no leaves get in the water.  This will cause the water to spoil really quickly.  If this happens please take stems out of the water and give them a fresh cut.  Then put flowers into a clean vase with new water.

Last note.  Cut flowers do not like direct sunlight. Position them in your home away from any windows that the sun comes through.

Enjoy your flowers.

Lilac and lily Lane.

Our long driveway has gotten a new name.  Lilac and Lily Lane.  I have finally planted a long row of Lilacs.  Yeah!  I have been talking about this for too many years and have finally done it.  Sadly we will have to wait a few years for the flower bounty, but it will be an amazing sight.  The lily beds have also expanded.  There should be no shortage of this flower in July and august.  Lots of hard work but will be well worth it in the end.

And just look at the Peony buds.  Progressing nicely.  We hope to start picking Red Charm, Coral charm and Coral Sunset by the third week of May.

First week of Spring Update.

Happy Spring 2015!  I love this time of year.  The garden is waking up and I am well into my spring projects.  Both my propagation houses are full to overflowing.  One of my favourite spring projects is seeding all the many annuals and some perennials for the cutting garden.  It is so rewarding to see them germinate and grow.

Here are some snapdragon seedlings.  Snapdragons have a very small seed and take quite a while to grow.  It just about seems impossible that these little seedlings will be ready to plant out in a few weeks.
More perennials going in as well.  I am always adding new plants to the cutting garden.  This winter more Peonies were added yet again.  Just one more row. Festiva Maxima. Lillian Wild and Shirley Temple.  All in the Blush color family.  Sadly we will have to wait until 2016 to get any cuts off them but it is always well worth the wait.  Here is what the peonies look like under the ground.

Our Flower Shop will be re-opening in May.
