August flower update.

This flower season had been like no other so far.  A late start but then hot and dry.  Thank goodness we are pretty set for watering with drip systems in most areas and a nice deep well.   The flowers did not suffer too much, but the flower farmer did.  I am so glad for a few cooler days to get caught up on some clean up.

It is officially Dahlia season.  The much waited for late summer blooms are here.  They are available by the stem so you can mix and match as many colors as you like.

Here are some scenes from the garden.  I took my camera off auto focus and played a bit with some composition.  I did manage to get some good shots.

The zinnias have done really well this year.  They loved the hot and dry weather.  This is a new one this year called Queen Red Lime.  I love it.
Cosmos going gang busters.  This is one flower that I can never keep up to picking.

This is Queen lime zinnia.  Also a great addition to the zinnia patch.

 And of course some dahlias.

Last but not least, my all time favourite sunflower is in bloom.  Soraya is the perfect flower.  Just the right size and always facing the right way.

Taking care of your Peony flowers

We all so love the peonies and wish they were not such a short season.  Here are a few tips to ensure that you enjoy the blooms as long as possible.

Always start with a pristine clean vase.  If you are on city water, put water in a pitcher first before adding to vase.  This will allow the chlorine to gas off.  Use flower food in water.  It does work.  It keeps the water clean, helps the flowers fully open and increased water uptake. Make a fresh cut on a steep angle.  This gives lots of surface area for water uptake.  Fill vase right to the top.  The water pressure helps the stems to take up water.  Within 24hrs top up the vase with more water.  At day 3, I recommend changing the water and making a fresh cut.  Trim off about 1/4" to 1/2".  This allows another fresh uptake of water.

Environment also effects vase life.  Cut flowers do not like direct sun at all.  So watch where you place  your vase.  The centre of the room always works great.

Also cut flowers, just like kids and pets cannot be left in a car for any period of time, even if they have a water source.  This will definitely stress them out and they will not last.

Always make your favourite flower farm or florist your last stop or only stop of the day.  Those precious stems need to get home right away.

I hope this helps.

We will re-open May 24th

Our official day to re-open will be May 24th.  Sadly everything is way later than last year and I am unable to offer Mother's Day Bouquets.  There is just nothing ready to pick yet.

Soon we will have a limited amount of lilac bunches available.  If the weather holds,  I will be picking Friday or Saturday.  We will then be open for the day, until they are gone.  Call or msg if you are interested.  Bunches will be 5 stems for $15.  The variety available is Sensation as shown below.
